Students seeking professional and non-professional courses in several different institutions across Andhra Pradesh will have to note their attendance through biometric process from the next academic year.

The State Department of Higher Education (DHE) has planned to install the biometric attendance system in every professional and non-professional educational institutions from the next academic year in order to improve the performance of students.

Official sources said that the government desired to introduce the biometric attendance system as a reliable measure to check misuse of funds and also to guarantee timely attendance of students.

The state government has allocated an amount of Rs 2,278 crore in the 2010-11 budget for post-matric scholarships and tuition fee to every eligible student belonging to SC, ST, BC, Economically-Backward Class, Minorities and also disabled whose family compensation is below Rs one lakh per annum.

There have been many complaints about the fee reimbursement benefit not really going to eligible students as some college managements were misusing funds through fictitious names.
