After the land, now it is the turn of the lakes in and around the city to get encroached. Many lake beds are being made in to plots and are registered. In order to prevent this, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) to post home guards at those lakes.

HMDA authorities have recently said that about 500 lakes in its jurisdiction will get their boundaries. They also said that about 42 home guards will be deployed at 21 lakes like Durgam Chervu, Banda Chervu (Malkajgiri), Amber Chervu (Kukatpally) and Thammadi Kunata (Madhapur).

Officials of HMDA said that in order to prevent further encroachments at the lakes, Full Tank Level (FTL) stones would be fixed by minor irrigation staff. Each of these FTL stones would be identified by its survey numbers and latitude.
