24 May 2011: The center chose Hyderabad over Delhi to host international conference on biodiversity which will be held from October 1 to 19 next year. This is the 11th Conference of Parties (CoP) to the convention on biological diversity. This is a grand event which will host 20 to 30 heads of the countries and 12,000 participants. This event will be held in Hyderabad International Convention Center.

Before finalizing Hyderabad, cities like, Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Chennai were also considered, but since these cities lack on logistics parameters such as, ability to host international conventions, transportation facilities, etc. Hyderabad was chosen over them.
