5 May 2011: The Roads and Building Department (R&B) department is now facing a challenge to improve 150-160 kms of the 200 kms stretch road that is being maintained by the department. This road stretch is really in a bad condition and with monsoon season ahead this has become a tough task for the department. The department as a part of “Hyderabad Beautification Programme” has decided to survey the road quality and its resistance to heavy rains. The road thickness is found to be reduced due to the heavy rains in the previous years. Hence, any chance of heavy downpour this year will lead to total wash away of these roads. As per the policy, the road thickness should be increased every five years. But no development plans of these road stretches were taken in recent past. Therefore, with an estimated budget of Rs.500 crore the department along with GHMC has taken up the works.

The roads that are in bad condition and which are a part of development works are Kukatpallu-Nalgonda cross raods via Punjagutta, Assembly and Koti, Mehdipatnam to Rajendranagar, Rajendranagar to L.B. Nagar via Katedan and Chmapapet, Tarnaka to L.B nagar crossroads via Uppal. Secunderabad to Kukatpally.

Due to the bad condition of roads, the accidents were also on rise. In 2009 monsoon there were 200 accidents and in 2010 there were 250.
