GHMC and Water Board Prepared to Face Monsoon Chaos

14 Jun 11: The GHMC and the HMWS&SB have prepared a disaster management plan to deal with flooding and emergency situations during monsoons. The civic bodies have identified 109 critical water logging points and low lying areas and have decided to complete all the repairing works. All the manholes are being checked and the problematic ones will be replaced. The GHMC has also decided to stop all road cuttings and restore the already dug ones immediately.

Desilting of storm water drains, table drains, catch pit silting are already completed in most of the areas and the remaining ones will be completed in phase manner. The body has also kept machinery in place, for filling potholes. Emergency teams have been appointed to attend breaches at weak tank bunds. Workers are appointed to cover leaking valves of water supply network, in case of heavy down pour. GHMC has also identified around 341 dilapidated structures that pose great danger during monsoons. These will be sealed and demolished.

The HMWS&SB has set up flood control rooms for receiving and redressal of complaints during monsoons.
