5 Jul 11: 8 Indian athletes were suspended from participating in Asian Championships which are to be conducted from July 7th for testing positive for doping. These tests were conducted by National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) in Patiala on June 27th.
The eight athletes who tested positive are:
- Ashwini Akkunji – 400m hurdles player and a part of 4*400m relay team. She has also won three gold medals in Commonwealth games and Asian games.
- Priyanka Pawar, Sini and Siana Mary Thomas – 400m runners
- Juana Murmu and Mandeep Kaur – These both woman quarter-milers tested positive for doping in the tests conducted by WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency)
- Hari Krishna Murlidharan – Long jumper
- Sonia – Short putter
