The Central Government has decided to implement the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for MBBS admissions from 2014 in the state. Considering the requests from the state government, the Centre made its decision to exempt AP students from NEET, for a period of 2 years.

From the past few months the state has been trying to get NEET postponed and was about to file a special leave petition in the Supreme Court on this matter. Meanwhile, Chief Minister once again appealed the Center to postpone the test for two years by explaining the difficulties students would face if the test were implemented from this year.

Change in Inter Syllabus by 2012
After the Centre had announced to implement NEET from 2014 in A.P, the state is now planning to prepare the Inter students who are going to take NEET for the first time in 2014 by changing their academic syllabus. As the center had already announced that NEET will follow CBSE syllabus, the new Intermediate syllabus will be according to CBSE, ICSE etc. This change will help the students to easily compete in the entrance exams.

Minister for secondary and intermediate education held a meeting with the senior officials of the education department and announced that the government is planning to bring necessary changes in the Inter First year syllabus by March 2012 and second year syllabus by 2013. Steps were being taken to publish the books with new syllabus in English language.
