Under the development assistance form Japanese International Cooperation Agency, the HMDA is to undertake the project of getting treated water in the lake. The cost of the project is Rs 370 crore and is likely to be completed by the first quarter of 2013.
At present, water form Hussain Sagar is sold to some 23 parks in Hyderabad at a minuscule cost and thus Rs 23,000 a month are collected. Sources say that the cost of treatment of the water might be more than Rs 7 a kilo litre. The authorities are going to consult the private sector with regard to pricing the treated water and take a final decision.
