Television commercial advertisements on food products are giving misleading information to the public by making claims that certain products make children grow taller and enable to have stronger memory, targeting school-going children. Such claims lack scientific basis.
In view of this, Union Government is planning bring out a legislation on Food Safety and Standards. The chief of an organization concerned with nutrition standards stated that the reason for lifestyle diseases among youngsters is intake of high energy foods regularly coupled with lack of physical exercise. Hence spreading of awareness of importance of good eating habits is essential.
