Displeased at the poor maintenance of city libraries by Hyderabad Zilla Grandhalaya Samstha, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is planning to take over the libraries located in its limits.

The issue of low quality services in the city libraries has been raised at the recently held general body meeting, in which a majority of the corporators raised concern over the poor services at various libraries in twin cities. Despite receiving 8% of the property tax collected from GHMC, for maintenance and development of libraries, in the form of library cess, which nearly accounts for 40-45 crores, Zilla Grandhalaya Samstha failed to provide proper facilities in the libraries.

Keeping all these things in view GHMC is now planning to implement measures for improving the quality of library services in the city. It is also planning to establish reading rooms in the community halls along with providing necessary infrastructure in the identified community halls.
