The Road Transport Authority (RTA) is planning to send a proposal to the state government stating a hike in the auto fares. If the government approves it the a minimum fare to a distance of 1.6 km will be charged at RS 16-17 (which is now Rs 14) and Rs. 9.50 for every additional km.

The RTA officials mentioned that they have considered the auto fares in other states and also discussed with the representatives of auto drivers’ unions before revising the fares.

Since 2010 there was no revision in the auto fares and due to the increase in the prices of petrol and LPG, the Auto drivers’ union has sent a notice to the transport department demanding to rise the auto fares failing which they will go on strike from August 1. This made the RTA officials to send a proposal for hike.
