Due Date Extended to 31 August 2012 to File Your IT Returns

People who are not able to file their income tax returns today, can get relaxed now. The last date to file income tax returns is extended. The Central Board of Direct Taxes, under section 119 of the Income Tax Act, 1961, has extended the due date for filing income tax returns for the assessment year 2012-13 to 31st August 2012. This extension is applicable to all the assessees who are liable to file tax returns by 31st July 2012 as per provisions of section 139 of Income Tax Act, 1961.

According to the official announcement made today, the authorities extended the due date after considering the reports of disturbance to general life caused by the failure of power and further in consideration of the fact that the e-filing of returns for specified category of individuals and HUF has been made mandatory.

People from Hyderabad city can submit their returns only at the Ayakar Bhavan at Bhasheerbagh. The IT department has already made arrangement by setting up 12 counters at the venue for the verification of primary details.
