The Medical Council of India (MCI) granted permission to Malla Reddy Group of Institutions in Hyderabad to establish a new medical college at Jeedimetla, Hyderabad, which would facilitate availability of 150 additional MBBS seats.

Another medical college, with 100 seats intake capacity, proposed to be set up by Apollo Hospitals group in Hyderabad has also been permitted. With few other medical colleges too coming up in different parts of the state, the total number of medical seats availabel in the state now have increased to 5000.

There are 14 government and 23 private medical colleges in the state with 4,850 seats in all. With the proposed new colleges, the number of private medical colleges will go up to 26.
