Begum Bazaar is the biggest wholesale and commercial market in Hyderabad. One can see and purchase a variety of things at a wholesale and retail price. Retailers from across the state come to Begum Bazaar, to purchase particular articles for their business needs at a wholesale price. It is a favorite place for locals and for people from across the state to shop.

History of Begum Bazaar
Begum Bazaar was established more than 400 years ago, during the rule of Qutub Shahi Dynasty. Later, the land was gifted to merchants for trade and commerce by Humda Begum, wife of Nizam Ali Khan Nijamul Mulk and eventually the name Begum Bazaar was derived from Humda Begum.

Begum Bazaar is a huge commercial market and is open on all the days of the week from 10.00 am to 11:00 pm. It is better if you visit the place between 10.30 am to 10.00 pm. But some of the shops are closed on Sundays. The lanes are narrow and generally the place is crowded and congested.

Begum Bazaar is a market where you can buy things at a wholesale price. The shops are actually famous for its brassware that is available in all sizes and shapes at whole sale prices. As brass got replaced with steel and aluminum, so are the shops. The place is equally famous for dry fruits, kirana items, household items, gold, silver, antiques and other commodities. It is also the second largest market for fish after Musheerabad.

Begum bazaar is also famous for its varieties that are available during festival seasons. Some of the specific items that are available during festive periods are Rakhi’s during Raksha Bandhan period, Diyas and fire crackers during Diwali period, Ganesh idols in the period of Ganesh Chaturthi, Kites during Sankranti and many more.

Price fixed/negotiable:
Begum Bazaar is a wholesale and retail market. If you are buying things in a bulk, then the prices are of wholesale and are fixed, but if you are buying only one or two items than the price varies and may cost you a bit more than the wholesale price, but you can bargain/negotiate with the wholesalers, as they don’t want to lose a customer. The bazaar is known for its good quality with best price. The prices differ about 30 to 50 percent, when compared to retail market.


While shopping at Begum Bazaar, it is better to carry your own carry bags, as some of the shops don’t provide carry bags. Be careful and keep an eye on your belongings, in order to avoid robbery as that place is much crowded.

APSRTC buses are available from all parts of the city to this bazaar. Afzal gunj is the nearest bus stop to Begum Bazaar. Other bus stops nearby are Osmania hospital, High court, Madina Market and City college. Bus numbers that pass through Begum Bazaar are 94A, 250A, 251M, 299A, 3, 3M, 3Y, 135M, 530, 152A, 16/87, 8R/25, 104T, 65, 66.
