GHMC has found that it is one year since fire safety standards came into force, and hospitals have not come to abide by them. The standards came on 17 December, 2011.

GHMC has had deliberations with APNA, ASHA, DM and HOs of districts of Hyderabad and RR and representatives from Disaster Response and Fire Service Department of government in this regard.

It is said, GHMC along with government fire service department is going to strictly implement the norms. The closing date is 31 December 2012. This is non-negotiable.

Another important issue is waste disposal in the area that could become an obstacle to fire fighting equipment.

The hospitals have been asked to file applications to DG, Fire Services (multi-storied buildings) and to GHMC (non-multi storied buildings) after fulfilling the condition of fire safety norms.

It is also important that hospitals see to it that not only should they have the machinery but maintain them in working condition as well.
