Higher VAT on Liquor

The state government has increased VAT (Value Added Tax) on IMFL (India made foreign liquor), (different from wine, beer and ready-to-drink type) within the country. The new rate is 190 per cent on different varieties and the price increased thus is as much as Rs 2,500.

On bottled and packaged beer, the VAT is to be levied at 70-175% according to the category.

The excise duty is also to be hiked on beer and countervailing duty on ready-to-drink types. For foreign wine, the trade margin has been raised.
