Hyderabad is facing acute scarcity of drinking water this summer. The problem is more acute in certain parts of the city.

As the current situation continues to be grim, in the coming few months, the main areas of the city will receive water only on alternate days and there would be cut on the amount of water supply by 50 per cent or water may be supplied once in three days.

The water levels in Krishna, Osmansagar, Singur, Manjeera and Himayatsagar reservoirs are falling. These are the main sources of drinking water to Greater Hyderabad limits and nearby villages. Due to the decrease in water levels, the supply of drinking water is affected. There is no other option left by the Water Board instead of supplying water equally.

In the last few days, 15 MGD water has been reduced and in the coming days, there may be more reduction in water supply.

More than 50,000 bore wells that belong to HMWS&SB and private owners are on the verge of drying up because of the decreasing level of ground water, due to which there may be pressure on Water Board for additional supply.

It has been urged that the Nagarjuna Sagar reservoir should be maintained at 510 ft level, so that a serious drinking water issue can be avoided.
