It seems that city roads are no longer safe due to the lack of discipline for safety rules by motorists. It is learnt that motorists were involved in more than 72% of all accidents in the last 4 years on the city roads.
According to Hyderabad traffic police statistics, since 2009, motorists are held responsible for 30% accidents in city and those involved have been victims in 42% of all accidents.
Up to April this year, 75% of accidents had motorists involved. Though there is rise in motorists’ accidents, we hardly see people protecting themselves from helmet. Last year, a survey was done by the World Health Organisation and they found that less than 20% of motorists wear helmets in city.
