Peripheral Area Colonies to Face 5% Hike in Property Tax

5% additional property tax was approved by the standing committee on houses of peripheral colonies where new roads, water supply, streetlights, and drainage lines would be provided through a loan of Rs.600 crore to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation. In addition to the 30% surcharge proposed for recovery of some amount, more 5% property tax was proposed. The tax was proposed to be levied for a few years only from 1,200 colonies, lacking basic infrastructure which would be built through the loan.
