People of Hyderabad will not be able to see any lakes in the city with the increased rate of urbanization. Save Our Urban Lakes (SOUL) is an NGO which is involved in saving the urban water bodies. Since one year, the organization has been working to protect the lakes around the city including Patel Cheruvu, Hussain Sagar and Shah Hatem Talab.

With an increase in population in the city, there had been massive urbanization in the past decade. The land grabbers have been trapping not only the land, but also many lakes in the city. It was suggested that if the urbanization is continued at this rate, Hyderabad will be left with no more lakes by 2030. In order to protect the lakes from encroachment and save them for future, SOUL promotes gathering of many people to act on such issues.

In order to protect the lakes and prevent dumping, the officials of the GHMC proposed fencing the lakes. They planned to initiate action against the corporate houses or private agencies or any other encroacher. On the other hand, a few demands are proposed by the SOUL to the GHMC including the clarity of roles and functions of Lake Protection Committee members. It also discussed on the posting of home guards at important lakes by the Hyderabad Municipal Development Authority. It even suggested to post information on water bodies on a common website.
