High Court to Help GHMC in Dealing with Illegal Constructions

In order to cut down the rise of illegal constructions, misuse of cellars, open spaces, using residential areas for commercial activities etc., the AP High Court has proposed to implement certain guidelines and help the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) in the process. The corporation had demolished about 13,000 units during July 2011. It was found that the irregular duty of the municipal body led to the large-scale demolition. However, the GHMC claimed that the process went slow because of lack of manpower. It was, however, advised to create awareness among the people for preventing the emergence of such illegal constructions, which may avoid the action of building penalisation schemes.
