As per the common building rules laid by GHMC, drinking water connection as well as the electricity connection should not be given to the buildings which do not have Occupancy certificates (OCs). But so far, it is only the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) which has denied water supply to many unauthorised constructions. But from now, GHMC is looking forward to the A.P. Central Power Distribution Company Ltd (APCPDCL) to reject the power connections for buildings without OC.
However, the connections could not be denied totally for illegal buildings. Both electricity and water boards could collect three times the regular charges and provide connections for all such buildings as per the rules.
Recently, the Water Board has made a request to the municipal authorities to review all the buildings that were previously denied water connections. Following the request, the authorities found that at least 40% of them could be reconsidered as they have obtained clearance under the Building Penalisation Scheme, while some of them are old constructions.
According to the officials, these steps are being taken in order to curb the menace of illegal constructions in the city.
