The Municipal Administration and Urban Development department (MA&UD) issued new orders to GHMC saying that it should collect impact fee from all the new structures built in commercial zones within the core city limits.

The department also ordered the civic body not to accept any impact fee exemption requests, irrespective of the nature of the land on which the proposed structure is to be built. The MA&UD observed several cases in which property owners are seeking exemption thinking that impact fee is not required for new structures which are built by demolishing the old establishments. The officials mentioned that these problems are more often in case of old theaters that are being converted into multiplexes.

Thus, the government now clarified that there is no exemption for the impact fee and is applicable to the all the new constructions in commercial zone. The officials also said that the structures being built on the metro corridor, or 300 mts on either side of the track, would also be brought under the purview of the fee, even though the corridor has been notified as a multi-purpose zone in the master plan.
