Under the proposed public safety act, owners of residential multi-storeyed buildings (MSBs) and gated communities (people living in residences equipped with gates to monitor people walking, those going by auto-mobiles and bicycles) will have to install security measures at their cost in the apartments.
The new norms proposes installation of cameras and enforcing checks against sabotage. These are going to be made compulsory for residential MSBs- that are taller than 18 metres.
Initially, these measures were considered to be enforced for commercial establishments, shopping malls and other showrooms which witness large number of visitors. The draft proposal was, however, later extended to MSBs and gated communities.
The draft proposal is going to be tabled in the state legislature.
