22 May 2011: In contrast to the highest pass percentage of 83.1 secured by the state, the Hyderabad city has managed to secure the least pass percentage of 72.76 (among all the 24 districts in AP) for the third consecutive year. The average pass percentage rise recorded by the city is just 1 to 4 percent. The increase in pass percentage from 2009 to 2011 in the city is very poor and is 2.39 percent. But, the number of students appearing for SSC from the city alone is 29,000.

When researched about the reasons for this poor performance, educational officials say that, it is due to the increase in private and aided schools in the city that led to the poor quality education. 85 percent of the schools in the city are private and aided schools, whose pass percentage remained stagnant at 5 percent from 2008 to 2011. But in total contrast, the pass percentage in the government schools in the city increased by 20 percent for the same period.
