City police are going to make it mandatory to get clearance by enforcing GO 129 issued in 2005. Under the rules, shop owners across the city have to submit as many as eight sorts of certificates from fire, excise and local authority (civic body) to get a licence from the police to run their businesses.

According to official sources, police licence/clearance is compulsory as a matter of law for running ‘amusement and entertainment’ including big hotels and theatres and other businesses operating beyond 9 pm.

Small businesses including tiffin shops and tea stalls need no NOC from fire dept., according to rules framed under the Fire Services Act 1999. The police are, however insisting on an NOC.
