All the major malls and chain stores in Greater Hyderabad limits have been directed by the GHMC (Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation) to display plastic carry bag prices that they charge from customers near the cash counter and also display the discounts that customers gets on carrying their own cloth or jute bags. The prices should be displayed by September 15.
The purpose of giving the discount is to discourage the usage of plastic carry bags. It is also learnt that, in the last two years because customers were charged for plastic bags, their usage has come down by 40% and many people have started carrying their own cloth or jute bags.
