There are directions to the state government from the High Court to make alternate arrangements for averting direct discharge of sewerage in to river Musi until the river beautification project is closed.

According to officials there are about 18 major drains and many other local drains from various colonies that are discharging raw sewerage directly into the river and are polluting it.

According to Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) river Musi spreads over 59 km across the city. The main part of it is polluted because of unplanned development in the river’s catchment area .

The Hyderabad Metro Water Supply and Sewerage Board constructed four sewerage treatment plants that cover sewer mains of 30.72 km with a total capacity of 592 MLD.
