A recent government survey found that, of the 5.53 lakh acres of government land in the Ranga Reddy district, about 17,500 acres of land worth Rs 3 lakh crore is encroached by individuals and institutions.

Of the 17,500 acres encroached land, 4,368 acres is non-agriculture land and 13,145 acres is agriculture land. The non-agriculture land was grabbed in the central areas of Greater Hyderabad like Uppal, Malkajgiri, Qutubullapur, Serlingampally and Balanagar mandals.

Places where non-agriculture land was encroached

  • In Qutubullapur 1,273 acres of land was encroached
  • In Serlingampally 967 acres was encroached
  • In Hayathnagar 454 acres
  • In Balanagar 129 acres
  • In Malkajgiri mandals 373 acres

Places where agriculture land was encroached

  • In Shamshabad 2,007 acres of agriculture land was encroached
  • In Shamirpet 1,941 acres is encroached
  • In Saroornagar 1,072 acres
  • In Hayatnagar 989 acres
  • In Moinabad mandal 1,654 acres

A recent survey by government also found that over 300.24 acres of vacant land in survey number 1007 of kukatpally is of government land.

With the Telangana government investigating into the encroached government lands, the land grabbers might accuse the government of targeting Seemandhra people.

Another issue that has come into light is, the Wakf Board claims that thousands of hectares of its land have been listed as owned by the government. However, the government has stated that it is serious about protecting the Wakf Board properties and will help the board in freeing the lands from land grabbers.

Therefore to not get into any conflict between the two states over the possession of land in and around Hyderabad, the Cyberabad police has prepared a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to handle complaints of land ownership and grabbing.
