Various studies show:

.Urban poor are usually denied legal connections of basic services such as water, sewerage and electricity due to lack of security of tenure.
.Most urban poor receive less than 40 litres per capita per day of water supply.
.Illegal water connections often crudely done, leak and lead to contaminated water supply.
.Though 88 percent urban dwellers have ‘access’ to toilets, majority of slum dwellers resort to open defecation
.Garbage dumps used as an open latrine for children, expose them to severe health risks.
.Sewerage connections of slum dwellers are almost negligible.
.Poor access to transport results in the poor spending 30 percent of their income on travel to work.
