The kites and manjas in these shops typically tend to be of less quality and more expensive. Many of the shop owners are not experts in this business. The same people sell Rakhis during Raksha Bandhan, crackers during Diwali and Ganesh idols during Ganesh Chaturthi.

Sankranthi Kites
Begum Bazaar
In Begum Bazaar, there are many shops that sell kites, but Motilal and Balaji kite shops are the two famous shops that are in this business since decades and have made a name for themselves as those who sell quality kites and manjas. The prices here are fixed but are reasonable. They do not cheat and give one rate for one person and some other price for another person. You can expect lot of rush here because the shops are small and crowded. If you are not aware of the location, you can ask anybody near Begum Bazaar Chatri for correct address. The shops are open till 10 PM in night from New Year to Sanskranthi time. So it is best to go in the night for good shopping experience.


Mangalhat, Dhoolpet
Dhoolpet area is popular to buy kites because this is the place where the manufacturing of kites and thread manjas is done. The entire stretch from Mangalhat to Dhoolpet is filled with kite shops. It is a wholesale market where you can find kites in various shapes and sizes and manjas of different varieties. Going to Dhoolpet is not a great idea if you are not good in judging the quality of the manja. Almost, all the other shops will buy the kites from this wholesale market. One advantage of this place is you could get good quality at reasonable price.

Gulzar House
Gulzar House is an old kite and manja market which is located between Charminar and Madina building. The place has dozens of shops starting from Gulzar House road till the Dabeerpura stretch. The whole stretch has kite shops that sell kites and manjas of different varieties. Buying at Gulzar House is very economical as you get to save some money, but at the same time you need to purchase at least dozen kites, because it is a wholesale market and the rates are fixed – no bargain.

You will also find people preparing kites and manjas at Gulzar House. While some people go there for the cheap prices, many others do not prefer because the quality is not good. Some claim that Gulzar House kites tear quicker, and do not fly as well.

Warasiguda
In Warasiguda there are about 10 to 20 kite shops, that sell variety of kites. Finding these shops is very easy as they are located on the Warasiguda main road itself.


Bata, Secunderabad
There are some 15 to 20 wholesale shops at Bata showroom, near Sri Ujjaini Mahankali temple, Secunderabad. You will find different variety of kites and manjas not only from the local market but also imported from Mumbai. Many retailers in and around Secunderabad area come here to purchase kites, manjas and charaks. If you are living in that area, visiting these shops is really worth it, as you can buy many varieties at reasonable prices.
