Telangana state is home for many tourist destinations, noted for many monuments, forests, waterfalls, lakes and reservoirs. Hyderabad, which is the biggest and oldest city in Telangana has many attractive places and enchanting landmarks that depicts the rich mixed culture and historical tradition of its past. Hyderabad is more beautiful and lively to travel outside the city as much as it is inside the urban area. There are many one day destination places especially beautiful waterfalls within the distance of 200 to 300 kms around the city, that are perfect as weekend trips with family and friends. Even though the places are worth visiting, not many of us are aware because one has to visit them at the right season to enjoy their scenic atmosphere.
Kuntala falls
Kuntala waterfalls is claimed as the highest falls in Telangana state, located amid Sahayadri mountain range in Kuntala, Adilabad district. The place is easily accessible at a distance of 43 kms from Nirmal, 58 kms from Adilabad and 260 kms when traveling from Hyderabad city. Formed by the river kadam, the water actually flows through thick green dense forest, tumbles on to the rocks creating a huge fall from the height of 147 feet. Since the place is filled with thick vegetation surrounded by the hilly area, it is a nice spot to go as a picnic or enjoy the trekking. It is a great experience for visitors to watch this wonderful falls, heavily running through the rocks especially during the monsoon season.
Ethipotala falls
Another popular waterfall destination, that is shared in between the Nalgonda district of Telangana and Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh is Ethipotala falls, formed by the Chandravanka river, a tributary of river Krishna. This 70 ft high waterfall is located just at a distance of about 11 kms from Nagarjuna Sagar dam, and rejoins the Krishna river after traveling 3 kms from this location. When traveling from Hyderabad city, it is about at a distance of 164 kms on the Nagarjuna Sagar road. Filled with natural countryside atmosphere, no doubt the place is ideal for camping and trekking. Ethipotala falls is more vulnerable to foreign visitors as it has many popular destinations nearby such as crocodile breeding center, Nagarjuna sagar dam, wildlife sanctuary and the most famous Buddhist archeological structures.
Pochera falls
Another waterfall that is unique of its kind is Pochera falls situated at 37 km from Nirmal, 47 km from Adilabad and 266 kms from Hyderabad. Located amidst the thick forest area, these falls run very nearer to Kuntala waterfalls, just at a close distance of 22 kms. The falls are wide & deep and runs from a height of 40 ft in two steps. It is an exhilarated experience for the visitors to be in this place during the monsoon season and watch this natural flow of water from a great height.
Mallelateertham falls
Mallelateertham also called as ‘Shower of Jasmines’, is one of the major tourist attractions that is ideal for picnics, trekking and camping. These are natural waterfalls in the Nallamala forests, located at a distance of 180 kms from Hyderabad city on the Srisailam route. It’s a rare experience to witness this huge 150 ft waterfall, surrounded by mountain peaks and dense forests. People traveling to this place should be cautious and well equipped because the falls run below 500-600ft from the ground level entry gate.
