In India, wearing a saree is a form of cultural expression. It is the attire recognized as the identity of Indian women, throughout the world. The graceful look that a woman has when draped in a saree is unmatched. This elegance is not possible with salwar kameez and the Western style of clothing. Also, with regard to traditional events and cultural programs, the Saree is considered to be the most appropriate dress for lady participants.

India is a country where each region has some differences in culture; there are  numerous customs and traditions. But there is one thing that is common for womenfolk of all cultural backgrounds – wearing a saree. Though the style of wearing sarees may differ in some regions, the saree is treated as an expression of Indian culture by all women.  Even the zorastrians who fled from Iran to settle in India wear sarees like Gujratis, the area where they settled.

When we speak of sarees, a special mention needs to be made of the two Telugu speaking states, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
