Gosain Mahal now called Gyan Bagh Palace:
The location of the Gosain Mahal is in Joshiwada locality of an area now called Goshamahal. The current locality name and even an assembly constituency is derived from Gosain Mahal. It also also refered as pan mandi, as a vibrant betel leaf (pan) wholesale market is located further up the same street.
Over time the chelas of the Gosain Mahants like Gyangir Umrao Gir who were designated as the successor mahants and were conferred the honorary titles of Raja and Raja Bahadur by the Nizam administration. The original Gosain mahal has seen a large building extention by successor mahants. Around 1890, a large European inspired mahal or palace was constructed by Raja Narsing Gir. Today, what we see in public images are this mahal extension of 1890 not the original Gosain Mahal residence where the legendary freedom fighter Gyangir Umrao Gir , who rebelled against British in 1857 first war of Independence lived.
