The city of Hyderabad has been displaying tremendous growth in infrastructure during the course of the last 5-6 years. In particular, the development of the road infrastructure of the city is striking. Several new underpasses, flyovers, and roads have come up.
- The noteworthy developments in the road infrastructure of Hyderabad are chiefly attributable to the SRDP (Strategic Road Development Plan) of the Government of Telangana. All the new flyovers, underpasses, and roads have ensured that the commute duration in the city has drastically been reduced. The issue of traffic congestion is resolved to a reasonable extent.
- Many new road development projects are going on at an impressive pace, with the primary objective of further minimizing traffic chaos. It is estimated that around eleven SRDP ventures are going to reach the completion stage in the next few months.
- As a direct result of all these initiatives, traveling between two points in the city is no longer a challenging proposition. Movement of vehicles has become comparatively hassle-free when compared with the corresponding scenario of the past.
- The initial successfully executed SRDP project was the underpass at Ayyappa Society, Madhapur, which was opened five years back. Since then, this underpass has played a pivotal role in bringing down the volume of traffic on the road leading to Shilparamam.
- The cable bridge in the Madhapur- Gachibowli zone was opened to the public in the year 2021, almost soon after its construction was complete. This bridge, which is the longest of its kind in the world, has significantly eased traffic density on many adjoining roads. That is a crucial aspect, as the Hyderabad offices of several MNCs are located in the vicinity of this area.
- The underpasses and flyovers that have been developed in localities such as Madhapur, Punjagutta, Gachi Bowli, Mind Space, and Hitech City are of immense value. Every day, thousands of IT employees working in various MNCs commute on these roads, and quite a few of them drive to work. They don’t have to worry much about traffic jams anymore.
- As a significant part of the SRDP initiatives, the state government will be building a few bridges on the River Musi, at various locations. The purpose of these bridges is to simplify travel between the south zone and many other areas of the city.
- A flyover facilitating the flow of traffic in both directions has been built between Ramakrishna Mutt and VST. The flyover of around two-and-half kilometers, which is a steel bridge, has solved the traffic issues on the Lower Tank Bund- Vidyanagar stretch. This steel bridge has enabled the smooth movement of vehicles heading towards Osmania University and Hindi Mahavidyalaya.
- Likewise, the construction work of the flyover of slightly more than 4 km linking Nehru Zoo Park and Aramghar will soon be over. After that, there is going to be a marked drop in the travel time between the Zoo Park and the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport. Residents of the old city intending to visit the zoo park will benefit, as well.
- Shortly, the Telangana Government will begin the “link roads” project, which is the next phase of the SRDP. The aim of this project is to establish connections between both ends of many roads that are already present in the city. The successful completion of these ventures is expected to lessen traffic snarls to a substantial extent on numerous important roads.
