The government of Telangana State has approved several major infrastructure projects in 2024, valued at approximately rupees one lakh crore. The projects will further boost Hyderabad’s image as a prominent commercial hub.

  • Among the major infrastructure projects in Telangana is the Musi Riverfront Development Project. The primary goal of this project is the restoration of the Musi River. As part of the project, and to address the issue of sewage water, the government is in the process of constructing approximately 39 Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs). These STPs will ensure that the water is purified before being directed into the Musi River.
  • As part of the state government’s initiatives, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has given its approval to acquire more than 350 properties for road widening works and the construction of flyovers near important intersections such as Jubilee Hills, KBR Park, IIT, Wipro, and Khajaguda. Almost Rs. 800 crore has been allotted for these development works.
  • Upon completion of these projects, there will be a free flow of traffic in these areas. Presently, traffic chaos is what is seen in these zones during peak hours.
  • Another significant project is the construction of an elevated roadway on the Rajiv Rahadari, the highway connecting Hyderabad to Karimnagar. Once the project is completed, it will alleviate traffic on the highway. The cost of this project is roughly Rs. 2200 crores.
  • Several road widening projects have already been underway in areas like Dabeerpura, Bhavani Nagar, Falaknuma, and Shastripuram. These widening works, for which about Rs. 200 crore was sanctioned, are parts of the SRDP (Strategic Road Development Plan) initiative. The initiative is driven by the goal of easing traffic snarls as well as improving connectivity between various localities
  • The Telangana State government is all set to implement the comprehensive H-CITI (Hyderabad City Innovative and Transformative Infrastructure) program. This is a highly prestigious initiative expected to completely transform the city’s landscape. It includes well over thirty-five projects, together valued at about Rs.6000 crores. H-CITI encompasses developing new underpasses, and flyovers, and widening many roads. It aims to resolve the perennial issue of traffic jams and make traveling between different areas of the city easier.
  • A detailed study conducted by HMDA (Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority) identified many points where traffic congestion is very severe. The findings of this study are the basis on which H-CITI has been designed.
  • Approximately Rs. 350 crore has been approved for building a bridge near Mir Alam Lake, which will feature a four-lane roadway. Similarly, around 100 acres have been allocated for constructing a new complex, which will house the Telangana State High Court. This complex will be the premises of the high court of Telangana State.
  • The state government has already started expanding the existing Metro Rail Network. Once this expansion is completed in the future, residents of areas like Alwal, Medchal, and Kompally will greatly benefit. Their travel time to various other areas of the city will drastically reduce.
  • All these infrastructure projects and development works have boosted the city’s real estate sector, attracting the attention of both buyers and investors.

Apart from what has been discussed above, there are many other projects and initiatives aimed at further growth in Hyderabad. All those could not be included here due to a paucity of space.
