How Citizens Can Make Use of ‘Right to Information Act’

Every citizen of India can exercise the ‘Right to Information Act’ to know about any kind of official information of any department. This Act leads to transparent administration. In case you have applied for ration card, driving license, passport, permits or any kind of entitlements to governmental services, then you can make use of this Act to seek the information about the status of your request. Or in cases where you have trouble with the concerned department in issuing your righteous data or certificates, then invoking the RTI may by itself be a solution for your problem.

How to apply
If you are intending to know any kind of your information of your interest, just file your application with the Public Information Officer (PIO) of the concerned department along with Fee or submit it through the post office.

Application fee

Application fee costs Rs.10 which can be paid through Cash/Demand Draft/IPo or Banker’s Cheque, if the matters relate to Central Government Departments.

However, the application fee rates are different for different states.

Any consumer can lodge complaints or queries through Toll free National Consumer Helpline No. 1800-11-4000 or 011-27662955, 56,57,58 on which normal call charges apply. These numbers can be dialed from Monday to Saturday in between 9.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m.
