AP Gets 1000 More MBBS Seats from this Academic Year

The Medical Council of India (MCI) has promised 1000 additional medical seats for AP from this academic year, which makes the total number of MBBS seats in AP to 4,800, with seats in government colleges increasing to 1,800. Of these 100 seats, 600 are for 10 government colleges and 400 for private colleges.

As per the court orders, the 400 private seats will be distributed as – 100 seats each will be allotted to Visakhapatnam Medical College, Apollo Group’s Medical College, Malla Reddy Medical College and the remaining 100 will be distributed among other private medical colleges based on their infrastructure.

Of the 600 government medical seats, 100 will be allotted to the new Government Medical College in Nizamabad, which needs Rs.150 crore for it to come as a full fledged medical college. Similarly, the government needs Rs.30 crore for completion of NIMS Srirampur campus in Nalgonda and Rs.30 crore for Vishakapatnam Insitute of Medical Sciences to commission the hospital.

The government also urged the center to allot funds for upgrading of Niloufer Hospital and Neonatal Institute of Pediatrics.
