Keeping in view the upcoming Ganesh festival, which will be celebrated on a grand note in the city, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has urged the citizens to use eco-friendly clay idols of Ganesha instead of the idols made of plaster of paris, painted with artificial colors.

GHMC officials also mentioned that they will also provide natural colors following a demand for it from the idol makers and they are also planning to involve school children into clay idol making and distribution so as to inculcate green values among them.

They also pointed out that the immersion of idols in the Hussain sagar lake is one of the main reasons for the lake becoming polluted. Hence, urged the citizens to immerse the idols in water at home and use it to water the garden.

GHMC is also planning to distribute 21 medicinal saplings which are hardly available in the market to the residential societies. They will plant sapling at five major gardens. They also mentioned that in the last year GHMC gave away more than one lakh saplings of aromatic plants and this year they want to cross that number.
