Hyderabad Ranked Fifth in Contribution to GDP


Hyderabad has been reported to be the fifth largest city of India in terms of demographic and contribution to GDP estimated at $74 billion, relegating Chennai beneath. The city has been performing well in fields like information technology (IT), pharmacy, and biotechnology.

The city regained the place after Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, and Bangalore.

Hyderabad, the capital of the state, has the largest number SEZ in the country. IT, pharmaceuticals and biotechnology are the staple industries contributing to its growth. It has a large informational economy employing 30% of work force.

With a population of 6.8 million and the city is highlighted for its unique culture. Historical monuments like Charminar, Golkonda Fort, Qutub Shahi tombs attract large number tourist. Food lovers come to relish special Hyderabadi cuisine, especially biryani, the most liked dish.

There are close to 13 universities.

Visakhapatnam has been ranked 10th with contribution of %26 billion to GDP.
