The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), has given an offer to all engineering colleges across the state. Thus, if they want to close their institutions due to poor admissions and asked the college managements to inform them before December.

There are about 3.4 lakh seats available in 717 engineering colleges in Hyderabad and also the highest in India. Of the 3.4 lakh seats, nearly 1 lakh seats were vacant after the first and second phase of Eamcet engineering counseling. Apart from the 1 lakh vacant seats an additional number of 1 lakh seats in management quota are expected to remain vacant.

According to sources, 22 engineering colleges did not have a single admission. While this year 229 colleges had less than 100 admissions. The AICTE fears that because of poor admissions, it may affect the academic standards, which may lead to difficulty in paying salaries to faculty and non-teaching staff, unable to function properly and unable give facilities to students as per AICTE norms.
