As Ravindra Bharathi National Theater celebrates its 50th anniversary on May 11th, a year long bonanza is ready for lovers of art and culture.
The foundation stone was placed on March 23, 1960, by then Governor of the Uttar Pradesh Bezawada Gopal Reddy for the theater, and it was inaugurated by former President Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan on May11, 1961. It was built at the time of birth centenary celebrations of Rabindranath Tagore. Celebrations were launched by Chief Minister K. Rosaiah and Minister for Culture J. Geeta Reddy on May 11.
This was followed by performance of the violinist L. Subramaniam, vocalist Kavita, and a dance recital by Shobha Naidu. Starting from May 11 the culture of one State will be showcased.
Chief Minister announced the construction of another big auditorium and a culture center as one of many plans in the time of Golden Jubilee year.
