Gone are the days when one had to stand in long queues, submit the filled forms and then go through the complex process of obtaining a passport. Now, with the opening of passport seva kendras (PSKs), you can submit forms easily just at the click of a button.
This hassle free process can be done at home. You need to upload the required documents online and you can choose an appointment slot and if it is available the system books it for you and then you need to walk-in at one of the PSKs along with the originals documents and a set of photocopies with the print out of the application.
At the passport service kendras (PSKs), after going through the preliminary checks, you will get a token. The computers will maintain the queue system with A,B and C counters and you need to follow the procedure and wait for his or her turn to go to the allotted counter.
At counter A, the applicant has to show all the documents and pay the passport amount. The employee takes fingerprints and clicks the picture of the applicant. Then the applicant has to go to counter B for document check and then for the final checking of the documents the applicant has to go to counter C. The applicant gets an acknowledgment card, which includes the information of applicant and file number for tracking its movement, before one leaves the premises.
According to a PSK official, the security personnel will send the applicants, systematically to the counters A,B,C and exit, accordingly to the scheduled appointment.
Tatkal applicants will get there passports from seven to fourteen days and for normal applicants it takes within 30 days of police verification.
