As per the new rules of State government, every school irrespective of its medium must teach Telugu as a compulsory subject along with English for their students studying up to higher classes. The reason behind the move is making Telugu a compulsory subject as it was urged at World Telugu Conference held in Tirupati in Nov-2012.
Chief Minister approved this new proposal in January 2013 and stated that this rule is implemented and applicable from the academic year 2013-2014 in all schools till X standard irrespective of syllabuses they are offering. For graduation still approval is needed.
According to sources, the new norm will apply to students (around 1.29 crore) up to class X who are registered in one lakh schools. But this rule is relaxed for students from class VI to X who hail from other states and countries and they can choose Special English. With this new rule, now everyone will focus on Telugu.
