Foundation and Origins
The spiritual heritage of SRCM was developed during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. This was the time when contemporary views on yoga and meditation emerged. Ram Chandra of Shahjahanpur formed the Shri Ram Chandra Mission (SRCM) in 1945.
The purpose was to preserve the spiritual wisdoms he had received from his teacher Ram Chandra of Fatehgarh. Since its creation, the mission has been to be a non-sectarian establishment that accommodates individuals of every religious, cultural, and professional background.
Sahaj Marg: The Spiritual Way
SRCM means the Natural Path in its translation. Sahaj Marg is based on the Sahaj Marg. It is heart-based and a form of meditation. This emphasizes the Raja Yoga teachings. However, modified to appeal to the masses and to represent the daily practice. The process empowers building inner awareness. It even helps practitioners to develop potentials such as tranquillity, compassion, emotional control, precision, and acceptance.
Spiritual Leadership – Present and Past
SRCM has had a steady spiritual leadership since its establishment. The head of the Mission was Ram Chandra, followed by Parthasarathi Rajagopalachari, who led the Mission for several decades till 2014, increasing its reach and institutional frameworks. This was followed by the leadership of Kamlesh D. Patel, widely known as Daaji, who is still leading the organization into the modern era. One of the themes that has emerged through the leaders has been the combination of spiritual life with family life and career responsibilities.
Global Expansion and Reach
What started as a mission that was Indian-based has become an international movement. SRCM currently has over 160 countries of trained practitioners, and an extensive network of regional centres and trained volunteers. Meditation training is offered free to show that it is a non-profit organization. Books, pamphlets, audio, and digital materials have been translated into numerous languages, allowing the culture to adjust to them so that newcomers can learn and practice Sahaj Marg in their own languages.
The Headquarters and Infrastructure
The worldwide head office of the Mission is in Kanha Shanti Vanam, near Hyderabad, Telangana. The campus is a complete spiritual practice, learning, and stewardship of the environment. There are meditation halls, residential homes for visitors and trainees, training centres for volunteers, and a school for the children of the onsite residents. Kanha Shanti Vanam also provides long-term ecological programs, like forest planting.
Recognition and Activities
SRCM has been able to gain prominence at the national and international levels. The United Nations Department of Public Information has recognized it as an NGO. Among the outreach activities is the All India Essay Writing Event held every year in partnership with the UN Information Centre in India and Bhutan, and involving hundreds of thousands of students who write in different languages used in India. The green initiatives by the Mission have also gained publicity as an example; it was awarded the Telangana government Haritha Mitra (Green Friend) Award in 2016 due to its environmental conservation efforts.
Contemporary Mission
To this day, Shri Ram Chandra Mission has not stopped its main mission of providing spiritual training in the form of what is commonly referred to as Heartfulness Meditation. The organization has remained faithful to the original principle of its establishment in providing yogic practices to people of all walks of life. The focus continues nurturing warm personality traits like love, tolerance, compassion, acceptance, and inspiring the practitioners to have a practical approach toward life indoors and their duty outdoors.
