Prices of vegetables in the city have gone up. This has forced consumers to pay at least Rs 15 – Rs 20 extra per KG on their purchase. The rise in prices is because of the cyclone that hit crops heavily last month. The rise in prices began after Deepavali. The supply of vegetables has declined by 60% and will remain the same in the days ahead.
Potatoes that sold at Rs 20 per kilo a few days ago, sell at Rs 35 – Rs 45 per kilo currently. Likewise, onions prices that came down to Rs 30 per kilo are priced at Rs 50 per kilo. In case of other vegetables like drumsticks, green chillies, lady fingers, etc. the price is 50% higher. This is the third time the prices of the vegetables have raised in past one month.
