Faulty weighing Machines Being Used by Gold Shop Owners

Whenever you buy the gold ornaments, go for the re-checking the weights. Defective or wrong weighing machines which will have a variation of about 50 mgs or 25 mgs are being used by many jewelery shops in and around the cities and suburbs.

On recent Akshaya Tritiya, the Legal Metrology Department conducted special raids for detecting the differences in the weights. The raids were conducted on 102 jewelery shops, out of which 37 shopkeepers are being booked for using the wrong weights.

There is a variation of 25 mgs, if a customer purchased an ornament weighting one tola, said one of the officials. Some of the machines are showing the defaults up to 50gms. The jewelery shops in Abids, Basheerbagh, Malakpet, Pot Market in Secunderabad, Somajiguda, Chaitanyapuri, Kukatpally, Habsiguda, Ranga reddy districts were raided.

Licensed repairers are used for verifying the weighing machines. Department officials can also solve the problems regarding the weights of the gold. Authorities claimed that even after alerting the usage of faulty machines by the owners, they refuse to obey the rules.

By seeing the banners of the special discounts, customers are being deceived by making use of faulty machines. If any owners are using the faulty machines then cases are being booked under the section 39(1) of the Standards of Weights and Measurements Enforcement Act- 85. Even the penalties are collected from around Rs.2000 to Rs.5000.
