To encourage rainwater harvesting (RWH) structures, the HMRS&SB is planning to return deposits collected from customers.

As per provisions of Water, Land and Tree Act (WALTA), the Board collects Rs.2500 from each customer who have more than 200 sq yards for constructing RWH structures. Despite Rs.23 crore has been collected, it has not been utilized for the purpose.

Because of the fast depletion of groundwater levels and water levels receding in Osmanasagar and Himayatsagar, the Board took a decision to construct RWH structures on a large scale in residential and commercial premises three months ago. The government is to construct 23,000 RWH structures in GHMC territory.

Construction of RWH structures at all the 60 water filling stations in twin cities is on the anvil.
