The role of Police in present times has become crucial as they have to ensure law and order is maintained by remaining within the ambit of law. For this they need continuous education and professional guidance about police related subjects like law, investigation, forensic sciences and medicine, computers, and cyber crimes etc.
The Andhra Pradesh Police Academy (APPA) where in thousands of police officers get trained every year in various police related subjects has remained in forefront in imparting knowledge to all field police formations through variety of training programs, it was restricted to only one third of the force in an institutionalized environment.
To achieve this and in its quest to disseminate knowledge to the policemen in AP, APPA has devised an innovative way to ensure the policemen get continuous education to discharge his legitimate duties.
Taking advantages of latest technologies, the APPA under the guidance of their Director Dr. C.N. Gopinatha Reddy launched e-learning facility through SMS platform, APPALERTS. Under this program, all the useful professional tips related to law, Supreme Court judgments, forensic medicines, fitness etc will be send regularly to approximately 5000 police officers who are using the CUG (Closed User Group) phones in state. These messages will be customized according to the needs of professional groups like Law and Order, Traffic, CID, Reserve Force, Police Leaders, Computers, Ministerial Staff, Public Prosecution etc.
Some of the Sample Alerts will be like:
- “Sanction not required for prosecution under Ss. 409, 468 IPC(2009) 6 SCC 372”
- Women can not be arrested after sunset and before sunrise, except under certain exceptional circumstances. (Crl Law Amendment 2005).
Other government institutions, enforcement agencies should follow this novel way to improve their professional knowledge that will help them in executing their duties in best way. Such drives will help to increase awareness of government servants and help them to discharge their duties better.
