A few years back, the government constructed foot over bridges at some busy junctions in the twin cities. But not many people were using them as climbing the steep steps was a tiresome task mostly for women and elderly people. People preferred to risk their life crossing the main road rather getting on to the FOBs.
Municipal authorities planned to equip foot over bridges (FOBs) with escalators and elevators to help the people while crossing the roads. According to GHMC officials, elevators and escalators are proposed to install at eight foot over bridges in the city and the work has already begun to upgrade them. The FOBs that are going to get elevators and escalators are situated at Ameerpet, Khairatabad, Rail Nilayam, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan School in Film Nagar, Malaysian Township in Kukatpally, NMDC near Masab Tank, and Owaisi Hospital.
The foot overbridge near L.V. Prasad Eye Hospital, Banjara hills is almost complete and will be opened soon for the public. This is the first one to be equipped with elevators and escalators in the state.
